All about Vehicle Registration & Renewal in Sharjah

For the past few years, buying a car has become easy and necessary too. Though the purchase of a vehicle can be simple like getting a loan approved, finding a vehicle and completing the purchase, the actual purchase of the car does not end here. There are important legal steps further like getting your car registered, car number plate fixed and getting your new car insurance in the UAE. According to the Sharjah RTA, it is mandatory for all vehicles on the road to be registered and insured. 

New Vehicle Registration in Sharjah

Usually, the vehicle registration of a new vehicle is assisted by the car dealer. The buyer has to make sure the vehicle registration is processed rightly and the car number plate is registered as per the Sharjah RTA guidelines. The vehicle registration in Sharjah is valid for a year. 

The new car registration in Sharjah can be done online and the steps involved are,  

• First, get car insurance in UAE for your car
• Visit Emirates Vehicle Gate or MOI website or MOI app 
• Submit the documents required and pay the fees 
• Once the documents are verified, the vehicle owner will get a date to pick the Number Plate, Mulkiya & Expiry Date sticker.  

 AED 400 is charged as the new vehicle registration fee in Sharjah.

Car Registration Renewal in Sharjah

The car owner needs to renew the car registration in Sharjah every year. The car registration renewal in Sharjah can be done online or offline. The car owners need to repeat the entire registration process again after 12 months of the first registration including the renewal of car insurance in the UAE. Also, the car inspection should be done as part of the vehicle registration renewal process. 

Car Inspection Process in Sharjah

For new cars, the vehicle inspection will be done after two years. Once the two years period is over, the vehicle inspection has to be done every year. So the vehicle inspection will be an add-on during the car registration renewal in Sharjah. The vehicle inspection can be done in any Tasjeel centre and the fee for the vehicle inspection in Sharjah is AED 150. 

Once the car inspection is done, the car registration renewal can be done online or offline. 

Steps for Car Registration Renewal in Sharjah - Online 

• Visit Emirates Vehicle Gate or MOI website or MOI app 
• Submit the documents required and pay the fees 
• Give the address you want the renewed Mulkiya Card to be delivered to 
• Once the documents are verified, the vehicle owner will get a renewed Mulkiya Card & Expiry Date sticker. This would take a maximum of 48 hours.  

Steps for Car Registration Renewal in Sharjah - Offline

• Visit any Tasjeel Center 
• Submit the documents required 
• Pay the fees
• Once the documents are verified, the vehicle owner will get a date to pick the Number Plate, Mulkiya & Expiry Date sticker.  

AED 350 is charged for the vehicle registration renewal in Sharjah.
