How to activate electricity and water?
If you’re new to the emirate and need to set up your DEWA account, here’s what you should know to get started.
- Ejari tenancy contract is required when applying for a DEWA account.
- Typically, the property agency manages Ejari accounts for apartments or villas.
- Register for Ejari on the Dubai Land Department (DLD) website or Dubai REST App. Alternatively, offline registration is available at Ejari typing centers in Dubai.
There are fees associated with Ejari issuance. The fee payable to the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) is AED 170. This can be paid through any authorized property management company or a RERA-approved center. This amount is subject to change from time to time by the authorities.
In addition to the RERA fee, there are service charges. If you process your Ejari issuance through a RERA-approved center, the service charge is AED 45. Alternatively, if you use an authorized property management company for Ejari issuance, the service charge is AED 40.
It is an automated move-in process for tenants that can now be initiated immediately after the Ejari is issued. This enhancement ensures that the necessary data is automatically transmitted to DEWA, which will then create a corresponding account for the tenant.
With this streamlined service, applicants can expect to have their electric connections set up quickly.
The best way to apply for Dubai water and electricity services is through the DEWA Smart App or the DEWA website, available 24/7. You can download the mobile app from the Google Play Store or App Store. Alternatively, use the Dubai Now app to pay DEWA bills online.
Offline services are also available where you can visit the DEWA Customer Happiness Centres.
Takeaway
DEWA provides a way for Dubai residents to manage their water and electricity consumption more effectively. You will now receive a single email notification for all collective accounts under your statement code. To view the detailed breakdown of each bill, you can log in to DEWA’s Customer eServices Portal.
